本剧讲述了来自巴黎问题郊区的三兄弟的故事。苏雷曼是巴黎的一名学业有成的法律系学生。他在一场著名的辩论决赛中遇到了丽萨，辩论的主题是政府对于郊区现状的责任。丹巴是三兄弟中年龄最大的，他在街头混迹，以贩毒为生。他们 15 岁的弟弟努姆克仍在努力寻找自己的出路，他必须决定跟随哪一位兄弟的脚步。一场战斗，一声枪响，一场悲剧。

1958年7月20日早晨，县委工业部长李玉如正骑着自行车在崎岖的山路上直奔普桥。普桥煤矿，土法炼焦池旁，熬矾厂也在加班。遗憾的是，大锅缺乏，作肥料用的黑矾总是供不上各乡的要求。李玉如了解情况以后立即给铁工厂魏厂长挂电话，叫他马上铸大锅。然而魏厂长正被各乡要农具的人包围着，县委农业部长胡如槐也催要水车。说到水车、小铁轨、大锅等等样样需要铁，没有铁啥也办不了，一穷二白，在这种情况下，武矿长突然站起来从箱子里翻出一块保存了十几年之久的顽石拉着李玉如奔向矿藏。县委金书记是李玉如的丈夫，为了促进实现亩产千斤的指标，率领了县委检查组深入到基层，开展起生产土化肥运动，支援农业生产，制造采铁矿用的炸药， 7月20日星期日是普通的一天，在这一天一夜的时间里，出现了遍地开花的成绩。
